The short lessons are well-written, very helpful and practical. The only problem I have (thus the 4 stars rather than 5) is that the illustrations don't show on the Kindle edition.

This is a very comprehensive manual for any level of player. Like any printed material, you can find a mistake or two. To those who would make a big issue over one or two inaccuracies, GET OVER IT! MOVE ON! This is still one of the best and most accurate books on the subject out there. You probably wouldn't enjoy the sport anyway. LOL For the rest of us, follow this book and your game will improve.

this book has a great selling point in my opinion: It is a series of 1 page articles that get to the heart of a particular issues. It is a great way to hone in on topics of particular interest to the reader.

This book helped me a lot after just reading a few pages of lessons. I'v taken quite a few lessons from some professional pool players and you will always get something out of them, but just reading a few pages of instructions from professional pool instructor Tom Simpson and my game (and confidence) really jumped up. Would recommend to anyone looking to up there game!

Love the way the book explains how to play billard at your best.

the one page lessons are very clear. I was able to practice some of them on the pool table. I am still reading the book and will put to practice as many lessons as I need.

Professor Carpenter has a BS from California State University (Humboldt) and University of Copenhagen, Denmark, and an MBA from California State University (Bakersfield). He also completed graduate studies in enology at the University of Bordeaux, France. Before obtaining his PhD in strategy at the University of Texas, Austin, he worked in banking, management consulting, and software development. His research concerns corporate governance, top management teams, and the strategic management of global firms, and is published in SMJ, AMJ, AMR, AME, JM, and HRM. He serves on the editorial board of AMJ, was voted Professor of the Year by MBA students, and identified as one of the most popular professors in the BusinessWeek MBA poll. This wasn't what I thought it was going to be, but my sister, who is into theatrical make up, liked it very much. I gave it to her, and she said it covered a lot of info she was getting in a class she was taking. She's into the gory, bloody make up of Halloween.

Fantastic book! A must have for those makeup artist looking to get into the television and movie industry. My only complaint is that the pictures are all in black and white, but it is an older book so that's to be expected.

You would think that a book on makeup -- especially at this price -- would contain many more color photographs. After all, successful makeup is dependent upon illusions of color as well as light and shadow.That said, I did learn a great deal from the book, particularly the chapter on human aging. This is a good book if you are as interested in makeup theory as you are technique.

Another good book for going beyond the vampire at Halloween.

I don't know any professional makeup artist that hasn't owned/read this book.Its been around forever so a few products are a little out dated and there are more things on the market today, but all the basics you will ever need are here and well written and easy to understand; in my opinion a must have for any makeup artist, no matter what the skill level.

This book has a lot of very useful information in it. While it's not for a beginner, I as a beginner am learning a lot from it. I appreciate the period section.However, I'm glad I bought it used because of the writing quality. The author is downright condescending toward "everyday" commercial make-up and (it seems to me) anyone who is not a makeup artist but nevertheless uses makeup in some form. I understand that this book is about PROFESSIONAL makeup, not amateur or costume, but unless you're already an established professional with a full kit of professional cosmetics you are probably going to feel insulted.I understand that once I am a professional I will need to have a thick skin, but I don't pay people to degrade me, which is what I feel this book does.

This book is definately geared towards the professional makeup artist. I'm an avid Halloween costumer and wanted to try special effects makeup but this book was over my head. The author assumes that you have some basic knowledge of makeup technique and the lack of color photos makes it impossible for the novice to figure out what he's talking about. I'm thinking of purchasing Laura Thudium's makeup book to learn the basics and then hopefully this book will be more useful.

This one was a tough read. It was written well enough, mainly because it was done by former editor of The Source magazine. But the content was very gritty. I like DMX's music. But Earl Simmons the man is a bad guy. I actually don't like the dude now that I read his story.If you really want to know the history of DMX, this is a good read. You can tell there was a lot of research done, not just interviews with DMX, but with the people in his story from the very beginning. Just be prepared for a hard and mostly unhappy story.

DMX-my favorite rapper ever so I already loved the book even before purchase. Fantastic book. I read it in a night. I couldn't stop and just kept turning the pages. Shed a few tears; I felt his anguish and pain. Now when I really listen to his lyrics and watch his musc videos, I have a better understanding and appreciation of his life experiences. I just finished reading this book aloud over lunch to my kids (six of them, ages 13 to 2) and I would say that it was a hit, overall. As you might expect with that age range, there were various degrees of "getting it" amongst the kids! However, we have also watched a DVD series called *Last Chance to See* that originally introduced us to the Kakapo, so that helped.Pros: fantastic photos! Wow! The text is enthusiastic, beautifully descriptive and has some nicely placed tongue-in-cheek parts. I was particularly interested in the sidebar piece on the original New Zealand conservationist, Richard Henry, and have assigned my 13yo the work of doing a report on him...seems like a great story waiting to be written by someone.Cons: Perhaps I was looking (personally) for some bits of more adult 'depth' to the writing and that would have been out of place for the overall work and it's anticipated audience; I'm not sure. I was greatly saddened by the unspoken but clear ENORMOUS amounts of money spent on each Kakapo alive. I would not want any species to go extinct, but - ouch! - so much on this bird species. However super-cool they are, they do not have the value of human life. Sometimes it's hard to get the right balance.

The beautiful photos will hold the attention of even the most reluctant reader and all readers will be crossing their fingers for a happy ending for the eggs of Rakiura and Cyndy (only one ends happily). All readers will fall in love with Sirocco the kitten-like old Kakapo who wants, and desperately tries, to get human companionship. Hopefully, all readers will have a better understanding of how fragile our Eco-system is. A great read for 10-14 year old who think they don't like non-fiction or science books.

I bought this as a gift for my mother, who is a staunch supporter of conservation. I wanted to introduce her to the story of these beautiful, fascinating birds, and this book definitely delivers! A good mix of photographs, history, and information about the kakapo and the ongoing conservation efforts to protect them. The book itself seems (so far) well made, and holds up to casual reading fairly well.I would definitely recommend this book to anyone, especially those who enjoy reading about efforts to protect endangered species.

This is a great book, and even though it was meant for children, I decided to order it anyway and see what the book was like. And it is cool.

This book was an interesting chapter book I have ever read. The book was full of fun facts about the Kakapo Parrot. I have never heard of this parrot before and to read this book and learn about it and how it is considered rare was amazing and made me realize how important birds are in the world we live in. I like how this chapter book was easy and gave readers facts about the bird. Saving the bird was the main focus overall but each chapter of this book was wonderful to read and learn how the people set out to try and save the rare and mysterious flightless parrots. The author connected very well with pictures which were the actual photos taken throughout the journey to help save these parrots.

This is a wonderful book! Saving this species of parrot, which I didn't know existed, from extinction is such a worthy cause. The dedication of the author and those who working is awesome!

I chose this rating because I liked the book and it helped me get a "B" on the project. :)I liked the book because it helped me get a good grade on the project (it was really helpful.)I wouldn't recommend this to any of my friends because their not really into animals as much as I am.

Awesome, we did this for a class group book on non-fiction. My kids loved it.
