About the Author
John Dole is a professor with the department of horticultural science at North Carolina State University. John has served as southern region director, treasurer, and executive advisor of the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers (ASCFG). He also co-coordinates the national ASCFG trial programs, which evaluate new annual, perennial and woody cut species. He has written hundreds of trade journal articles, scientific journal articles, and book chapters, as well as several other books. In 2000 he received the ASCFG's Allan Armitage Award.

This has been an excellent resource for me, a beginner, entertaining the idea of marketing woody ornamentals. The authors have shared a lot of detailed information from their years of experience and other growers of woodies. I love the sections "Why You Should Grow It" and "Why You Shouldn't" . Also the Quick Guide in the back and Other Resources - invaluable. I would highly recommend this book to others like me who are just starting out to grow and market woody ornamentals. With the initial investment of time and money in planting trees and shrubs and having to wait a few years before making a profit, one cannot afford to make many mistakes. So why not rely on these seasoned experts. Reading the book is like having the authors as distant mentors.

The go-to reference for growing unusual branches and other types of plant materials for design use. I love this book and am delighted Greer and Dole have published it. More than often, it lives on my desk rather than on the shelf because it is a must for floral producers and designers.
I bought this title for myself and found it covered types of plants that I had not considered growing. So, I ordered this book for my sister who has a large yard.
